Just picked this up from Amazon last week and it arrived two days ago. Assembly took about 30 minutes and was straightforward. I especially like the adjustability of the bar that fits in the miter track. It was close right out of the box, but after adjusting it, there is literally zero play and it still slides like butter.
The abrasive that sticks to the face of the miter gauge really works. I cut a few test miters and the workpiece stayed exactly where I put it. The extendability is nice for cutting longer boards. It makes it go faster without having to attach you own extension. The miter accuracy is dead on. I cut four 45 degree angles to form a square, and everything fit beautifully.
After having used it for two days, I have two complaints, both minor ones. First, the sliding workpiece stop seems like it has a bit of play in it. If you but it against your workpiece and tighten it down, it seems like it can move about 1/32nd of an inch or so. I’ve been butting it against the workpiece, then pushing the top of the stop (the part where the locking screw is) toward the blade before tightening it, to try and take up the play.
The second complaint isn’t so much a complaint as it is an observation. When adjusting the miter angle, there’s a spring loaded button under the set screw for locking down the angle. When you press this button, it engages preset stops at common angles. If you release the button after finding your angle and then tighten the set screw, it seems like the angle setting can drift a bit. I’ve been keeping the button depressed while tightening the set screw. This causes the button to remain depressed, and probably shifted to the side a bit more than it’s designed to be as the angle is locked down. It works fine, but it doesn’t seem like this was the way it was designed to work.
All in all, for the price I’m very satisfied. There are other gauges that are less expensive, such as the Incra V27 which is about half the price, which are probably just as accurate. If you just need accurate angles, then that might be a better choice, but if you like the large non-slip face and extendable sliding stop, then this is a great choice.
