This drill press costs $299 at Lowes and that seems to be a stable price, as I got it this summer but it’s still listed at that price. However, Lowe’s recognizes the 20% off Harbor Freight coupon so I paid less than that.
This drill press has served me very well so far. You’ll need two people to lift the very heavy headstock into place. I haven’t had any vibration issues. The table adjustments are easy though it does tend to slip a bit when you tighten down the bolts, so keep a firm grip on it. I’ve found the light and laser to be very helpful, and the instruction book tells you how to recalibrate the laser beam locations if they’re a bit out of center. The drill press is variable speed and the speed is changed by moving two belts in the top of the unit.
For $240 after discount I don’t think you can find a better floor drill press. One thing is worth noting – the table has t-slots for clamps but these slots do not go all the way through the table, so most “drill press clamps” won’t work. I haven’t found any that will fit those slots but I’ve gotten some deep-throat clamps to hold things in place.
I’ll put some better pics in later!
