I got to try out Lee Valley’s new Variable Roundover bit. This bit has two parts that can be spaced apart with the included shims to round over the top and bottom of stock from .79” to 1” thick.

It does take a bit of checking to assure that the bit is set to the proper width. Since the cutting tips are offset, it is difficult to exactly measure the setting. Make some extra stock and do test cuts.

This bit was designed to make tool handles using templates and Lee Valley even has template drawings available for you to download. I found it very useful for thicker projects like cutting boards and serving trays.
