I like mine higher than most of the other stuff in the shop. The one I have now, and the 3 that came before it, were/are all at 41”. I’m fairly short, so for me this is very close to the height of my elbow. My first one was Craftsman back in the early 80’s (1970 saw) and it was at that height and I liked it…so I’ve used that for the Dewalts that followed. That said, I suspect it’s a personal preference thing to a large extant.

It really depends on what is comfortable for you – not everyone is the same. I have two that are on the factory stands… one is about 39.5” high, and the other is a smidge over 40” – and both work fine for me.

This where personal preference is key. What feels comfortable to you my not be comfortable to someone else. Are you the only one in your shop? Are there multiple people working with you?

If you’re solo, what ever feels good to you, and makes you the most productive and safe is what I would go with.

If there will be multiple people using the tool, I’d find a height that is mutually beneficial, comfortable, and safe.

Back when I had a RAS I had work benches on both sides. I built the RAS stand so those benches served as supports. So if that sounds like a good idea, find your ideal workbench height and go from there.

Hmmm – that puts mine at 42” which is generally keeping with the taller suggestions. I’ll have to check tonight and see what it currently is.

I have my vintage Dewalt set up so I have a straight pull with my hand on the handle, I had it too high for awhile-less control.

Have your say...
