Grizzly G1020 15" Planer for $700?

All those cast iron Grizzly planers are based upon designs that have lasted a long time and are basically the same from one manufacturer to the next. There’s not much that will go wrong. You may want to check that the gear housing is properly lubricated.

A new machine looks like it would cost around $1,500 by the time you add freight. In your position, I’d go for the $700 one (since it’s apparently working well) and pocket the savings.

IMO it is overpriced.

1. that is an old machine by Chiwanese tool standards and old enough Grizzly has even recycled the model number, IIRC it is 15-20 years old

2. it was built when Grizzly’s quality was lower than todays machines, let that sink in

3. it is more than half the cost of the new version

4. they sold for roughly what the seller is asking for new

I’d try for 5-600$. A new dewalt benchtop is more than that.

I agree with Fridge, try for $500-$600. That said, I think it’s a solid machine and will serve you well.
