My guess is that it is a #24 screw, and I found some in Phillips head. I’d bet you can find them in slotted, but it may take some effort. They won’t be cheap, but that may not be a problem. Search for #24×3 1/2” flat head wood screw.

Thanks Fred! I’ll take a look.

Is there a conversion chart somewhere? Fractions to #size?

I have a handful that look just like that from an old piece of furniture I dismantled. Various lengths. How many (and what length) do you need. I could mail you a few.

Talk to a guy who does piano repairs. They have screws like that and they might have some extra on hand or know where to order them.

$2 a piece here: Blacksmith Bolt and Rivet Supply
There are others… that was just the first one that popped up that was slotted instead of phillips.

Cheers,
Brad

OK, I’ve got a few 4”, half a dozen 2”, and ONE 2.5”. Can you make do with any of these?

Perhaps you could cut the 4” ones down with a grinder?

I just pulled 4 of those exact same screws out of an old table that was used for a Craftsman 109 metal lathe. On second thought…..maybe yours are heavier? Anyway, Here they are.

Hey, sorry for the delay.

@Quanter – Yea, I think mine are beefier then the ones in your pic. Mine are 3/8” in diameter, what are those?

@Joe – I’m might be able to use the 4”ers. Thanks!

Now that we found you something you can use… I can show you this.

When you first posted that you needed help finding a “really big screw”. I was just gonna post a question.

Careful with the optimism, this is the USPS we’re talking about! (LOL)

You got that right Fred. That’s why I always opt for the “Tracking” feature.

That was the site I found. I googled “slotted head wood screws, large” and it came up near the top of the page.

Well according to the USPS tracking, it left the San Francisco facility ( 92199 ) at 2am. Depending on how far that is from you, you might see it today or tomorrow.

San Francisco?! That’s only 9 hours north (depending on traffic) from San Diego. I wonder why they sent it there instead of LA? Eh … that the USPS for you.

Thanks for the update!

San Francisco is the primary distribution point for any Mail coming into Ca. from out of state , Kind of like FedEx sends everything to Tenn. first then back out again.
