I know Craftsman isn't what it used to be. That said, I ran across a Groupon for a 2 hp combo kit. For $80, I think it might be worth a shot. Anybody have experience with this model? The Sears site shows it as a Model # 27683 .
Well, shoot. I probably messed up somehow. Sorry about that. It seems to be working for me, but you might try google-ing "Groupon Craftsman 2HP Router Combo Kit with Fixed and Plunge Base " if you are interested.
I have that router in my arsenal of 9 routers. I like the soft start and it seems to be a good albeit heavy router. None of my routers, save the one in the table, get too much action, as they all pretty much have specific duties. That ones duty is rabbeting and does a splendid job. I just used it recently to put a fairly deep rabbet some 8/4 oak, no bog plenty of power. Soft start is a bonus on a router that size.
I have a craftsman router and don't like it because it isn't variable speed. They also have many plastic parts, which are flimsy and appear unreliable.
Since when does 11 amps equal 2HP? 11 amps @ 25volts equals 1375W. Each HP needs, in the best scenario, 746W. In the real world we figure about 1000w per HP when figuring circuits in a motor home. Real life experience the draw is closer to 1250W for 1HP.
I am not putting this unit down by any means, but wonder where the figures, even if it is from marketing, come from.
That sounds like a better than average deal. I just don't have a need for another router. According to the description on the Sears website, dust ports and edge guide are included, as well as 1/2 and 1/4 inch collets.
Sears website actually rates it at 12 amps. Either way, router and shop vac ratings are way out of whack! If it plugs into a 120v outlet, it won't produce more than 2hp for long enough to matter.
They must have made a mistake on the price and realized what had happened and changed it.
This happened to me a few years ago when I bought some aquarium filter for a real cheap price and after I ordered them I decided to go and order more. They changed the price to almost 3 times what they were originally selling them for.
I did get my original order but have never seen them for that price again.
It's called an oops!!
I am in retail and it happens all the time. Even after the ads are proof read by 2 or 3 other people.
I have so burned out with anything that Sear might offer….........................
Sorry to sound like a curmudgeon.
My OLD Craftsman tools are great.
Bill
Sure it is.. Sears/Craftsman doesn't actually make anything, someone else does, so you just need to figure out who. Unfortunately, that router has a mfg id of 320, and it appears that nobody seems to know who that is, or if they do, they ain't telling
$80 was a good buy on the 2 base kit, but when somebody mentioned 60% off i had to look at the Sears web site. They've sure gone goofy on pricing. That 27683 kit is showing on the Sears web site at $219.99, 12 amp router, only an okay design in my opinion. The 27680, which is a 14 amp that gets some pretty respectable following by some good router people is only at $169.99-much better rig than the 27683. Seems like not long ago the 27683 kit was in the $130 range-with seasonal discounts down to right about $100. Either somebody got dyslexic on the pricing of the 12 amp or we're about to see a heck of an increase on the 14 amp model.
No WAY i'd come close to paying Bosch 1617EVSPK money for a 12 amp Craftsman. Shoot, the 1617EVSPK refurb can be had for $174 right now, "first quality" at $219 with free shipping.
Received my router from Groupon today. The part number I received was 17543 not 27683. I went back and looked at the ad and didn't see any mention of part #27683 but there doesn't seem to be much difference between them other than the amp rating.
Was just wondering if anyone received the 27683 or knew of any other differences? I'll probably keep it unless there is a major reason not to. Seems pretty nice for the price and it also included a bag, guide, vac connectors, and both collets. Just wanted some other opinions.
Don't think so. The description said 2hp 11 amp combo kit with variable speed, 1/4 and 1/2" collet, and case….that's what I got. The add never mentioned 27683…that just happens to be the current model that's closest to this description.

I also got Model #17543. I hope nobody was misled by my original post. I Google-ed the description and model 27683 came up. However, the 17543 has everything described. Hopefully it will work out ok for us.
