Ohh hell yea, that’s gloat worthy Angie! Some nice wide board for the dresser and nightstand tops. Start doing youre homework on finishing that stuff. I know a lot of people use BLO so it doesn’t blotch on ya. Im sure youll have more than enough scraps to test on. Good luck on the build!

Angie,

Great score!

Beg, borrow or steal (ok, don’t steal…) enough cash to buy all he has. You will almost certainly never get a chance like this again.

Good Luck!

Make us proud!

Oh man! Why can’t a deal like this be over on my side of the planet?

I’ve been looking for this for a long time. Bummer for me. Great for you!
Congrats!

Be sure to get all you can! (You could resell what you don’t need and pay for all of it)

Storage is a factor as well. Right now… I have all the storage I could possibly need. I have a large garage that’s sitting on the property at my work. Free for me to use as I please. I have some other lumber and the rest of my cherry stored there now. But… we may be moving locations in September. I wouldn’t have a place to take it then. On the other hand… It’s such a good deal I don’t want to pass it up.

I also saw that he had some walnut on the trailer. Not as much. Maybe about 10 boards. He didn’t mention how much he wanted for that. I’m definitely getting more. Just got to figure out where I’d store it if we move.

This is my garage before I took over the cherry. The wood shown here was all free. A lot of it is thin cedar boards. But little did I know that there was some ash in there as well. And they were almost 1”. Most of the ash was 1” x 8” x 8 ’. It was not stored very well so it had some warping. But lots of good pieces.

DS… good point. I could buy it all. Then if in Septemeber we end up moving… I could sell off what I can’t store. Hadn’t even thought of that. Guess I need to be calling this guy. :)

Good for you! The rough pieces in the truck already look great. If you have the room to store it, I suggest you not miss out out this deal.

I am impressed with your restraint. If I’d found cherry at $.75/bd.ft. that truck would have been loaded full enough that the mudflaps would be dragging. Awesome score!

I think someone told me one time that “I” sucked over some nice cherry wood that I got and then “I” shared the cherry with a certain girl that I will keep nameless…so I think that it is my turn to say; “Angie…You S…hould be proud of this great deal that you came upon because yes ..cherry is a very nice wood to work with and it finishes up beautifully! You go Girl!

Probably too late now. But in the future, scrub your shop floor and tools. Pick up any cherry shavings that come off the planer and tools. IMHO you will never find a better smoking chip for the BBQ (even on a gas grill…a handfull of soaked shavings placed on a foil piece will give you a flavor to die for). If I could find cherry at that price my friends would have me doing the entire boards into shavings or chunks!

Lol! you guys are great!!! And yes… I know I suck. :)

tried to call the guy already. I’m waiting to hear back from him.

I have an end table I’m making out of ash. Then I owe my mom two out of the cherry. I think I will then start on the bed. I’ve had the plans for the bed picked out for a while now. But I’m starting to maybe change my mind. I guess I better hurry up and decide. The headboard and footboard for the plan I have are pretty simple though.

Now… Out to the workshop to work on my bench. :)

I buy all my hard wood as air dried rough sawn. When I get deals like poplar @ $.30 a BF buy all I can store. I recommend leaving it in the rough until you are ready to use it. it just seems to stay straighter.

That was a great price on that cherry. You could have bought it all and sold it for a healthy profit on the excess!
It is a rare find to get such good wood dirt cheap!
I’m like you. Never liked cherry much- just oak and walnut. I have gravitated towards cherry and I like to finish it natural. I usually stain oak. I especially like cherry for turning and kitchen utensils
