I wanted to post a praise to Barlow’s wood and service. I just received my first order from him, this morning. I bought two different grades of Birdeye Maple, White Ash and Basswood from him. The lumber is excellent. The Birdseye Maple is gorgeous. He also included three samples for me to check out. Black Ash, Red Birch and Butternut. Very good pieces of lumber. I fell in love with all three of them, I especially liked the Butternut. I emailed and talked to Barlow several times before my purchase and he is very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. The freight hurt a little but there’s nothing any of us can do about that. I would highly recommend both Barlow and his lumber. There a little bit of a language barrier. He’s from the North and I’m from the South, but we got along fine. :) Very good experience. Thanks Barlow. Shane -- We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. C.S. Lewis |

I am going to second what Shane said. I ordered some birdseye maple cut to guitar specs, and it is wonderful. It arrived quickly and was well packaged. (I didn’t get any samples, though. :() |

I just received some birdseye maple and some curly maple from Barlow. All I can say is, it’s beautiful wood. Gorgeous figuring, and lots of birdseyes. The shipping was quick and communication good. I used some of the curly for a lid on my first box which I’ll post soon. The base is ziricote, but what everyone comments on is the curly maple on top. I’ll be back for more! -- Bruce, San Jose, Ca www.spotofwood.com |

I just received a large order (by my standards at least) of Barlow’s birdseye. It is fantastic stuff. It has great detail which is not overwhelming as in some b.e. I have seen before. Barlow sent it out fast, right to my front door and stayed in contact with me every step of the way. If you need some stock, call Barlow. -- Chip -----------http://www.penmanchip.com-----------------Micah 6:8 |

OK, so this is what I get for posting a question re: wood sources in a different forum..! How would you do shipping, say 150 lin ft birch, most 4/4 but 3 6ft 5/4 (window trim)..? Longest length 9.5 ft but could go as short as 6 ft lengths. As it is skip planed, how would I get it surfaced smooth w/o a jointer/planer setup? Please pardon that puddle on the floor, I’m just a bit wet behind the ears here. I should add that my last major wood purchase (floor, 3-? years back) came FedEx (mostly intact) from Northern Michigan and the cost of that beat the time and fuel to travel “there and back again”. And really beat the cost available from local box stores, not to mention the Q word. |

I guess my question is not unlike Shawns. I live in oklahoma City, and I’m trying to figure out shipping. do I need to estimate weight? or size of both. Right now I buy from some local places, but these prices look mighty pretty compared to my local prices. How would I figure 50bf of cherry shipped -- "If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most logical explantion is that I was made for another world." -C.S. I just built a new garage wiith room over the attic to move my woodshop into in the UP. Its of a dream of mine for many years to have a dedicated woodshop and I would like to finish with only products from the UP. Looking for a good supplier of hardwood and flooring with local woods to finish it off with. Where are you located and can I visit to see your products? I am in the Minising area. |
