With the rust on the table I wouldn’t call it excellent shape. The price isn’t to bad but I would certainly use the rust issue to get the price lower. Maybe start at $75. Sometimes youhave to insult the buyer to make him get real.

yep, i completely agree. assuming that it’s just surface rust, shouldnt be a big issue, but most definitely will use that to my advantage to get the price lower. Do you have any specific knowledge about this saw or delta saws in general?

thanks

Pretty much the industry standard for 14” band saws and have remained virtually the same for over 60 years. Looks to be in excellent shape sans the surface rust on the table top which should not be of any concern. $75 might be a bit low but you can always try. Realistically I’d say it’s worth at least $150 if it’s plug and play with basically nothing needed other than a good table scrub.

Cheers,
Brad

thanks for the confirmation brad! i thought that delta was highly regarded in BS world, but i have very limited experience with BS’s myself and wanted all of you with more knowledge then myself to put my mind at ease.

Still waiting to hear back from the seller. it is and 90 miles from me, but if i can get it for the right price, seems like a good saw for the drive

Actually, if that saw runs well and the innards are in good shape, the rusted table is very easily fixable. I’ve seen that saw go used (in good shape of course) for $300+. I’d rather have that one than a china knockoff for more money. Given that, I’d still try and barter. Just for the heck of it. You never know.

$175 is a fantastic price for that saw. If it was close to me I wouldn’t be typing, I’d be driving right now. I have been knocked down for saying this in the past – do not insult the seller with a lowball offer – that is already an extremely fair price for that saw. You could go buy it, clean the table and resell it for $300 tomorrow.

I concurr with dhazelton…. I have had a 1960’s model of that saw for almost 10 years now and so far it has served me well. I’d buy another in a heartbeat given a price like that.

ok, so i just talked to seller. Very nice sounding guy. said it is model 28-275. comes with 1/2 and 3/8” blades. I did ask about the table, and he said that it was a brown colored coating that he put on the table to prevent rust and make the table more slick. So not even any rust to deal with. Said that he is selling it cause he wanted a smaller, more portable saw for the work that he does at his church.

i’ve got plans to drive down after work and take a look at it. cant wait

Dont drive there to take a look… drive there to PICK IT UP! Otherwise, you’ll get about 1/2 way home and be kicking yourself for not snatching it up :-)

I never heard anything about band saw but I think it’s a good one.

good band saw. a basic 14” model whose functionality will be driven by the power of the motor. IF its a 3/4 hp motor, it’s a very good deal. i’d try to grab it and the scroll saw for anywhere between $100 and $150. that’s a gloatable deal. good luck.

Its all about h.p. of the saw if its 1/2 hp I would counter with a lower price if its 3/4 or 1hp that a good buy…also check tires and belts for dry rot or cracking. Happy hunting and congrats to NIU go huskies!!

I think it’s a good value at $175 usually there around $250-$300 when I see them for sale.

SKIP THE SEARS SCROLL SAW. Look for an older Delta 24 inch scroll saw. They are beasts and go for very little money because, well – people don’t use scroll saws much. I was at an auction that had two last week and one went for $40, the other for $50. No other bidders, and I already have one so….

well immediately after work yesterday, i took off for the 90 minute drive to look at the saw. I got there, and like he said, it was in perfect shape. aside from the coating he put on the table top, and a little dust, it looked practically brand new. it does have the 3/4 hp motor, which i was happy to see. came with the 1/2 and 3/8” blades, but i have no idea of what brand blades they are. I paid him the full asking price ($175), as he told me he had another guying saying he would take it sight unseen at that price, but thankfully he gave me first shot at it as i called first….. all in all, extremely happy with my craigslist find

so now that i have the saw in my shop, a few more questions. i would like to make sure that i have a couple of decent blades for it. or maybe at least one good one to start with. what is a good place to start for blades? also, i would like a fence for it. any suggestions on a good fence to get for it.

thanks again for all the help, as usual here

I purchased these blades, based on the recommendation of fellow LJ JL7 (Jeff), Sterling 3/8x.032x3TPI X-tra Duty Carbon Blades. I have not used them yet, so I can’t speak personally about them. However, Jeff sent me some resawed birds eye maple and the cuts were nice.

Congrats on your new to you BS!!!

THIS must be a dead link, because I only get a 16” scroll saw coming up. Wow, never saw a CL listing change in less than 24hr before. Strange…

Mike – i bought the BS last night, so he must have already removed it from the listing and now it only has the scroll saw on it.
