I’d be lost without my pencil so That’s first and then my tape measure!!!! After those I get to use the rest of my tools and finally it’s my camera so I can post my project on LJ’s :)

My router table and drill press get a LOT of use.
My favorite would be my router table.

The last time I answered this question when asked, I answered with My Tablesaw Super Sled. While that is a very valued tool, I now would have to admit that my purpose-built woodworking workbench gets more use than all other tools combined. It is where I begin and end a project, and it is where I often will just stand with my head in my hands staring at plans and making adjustments to those same plans.

I’ve always been especially fond of my table saw….it gets the most use, is the most expensive tool in my shop, and is the one I take the most pride in owning.

It is like picking between your children. However, the TS gets the most run time besides the DC, which isnt very exciting.

My Unisaw, no doubt. If I ever bought a bandsaw, that would probably give the Uni a run for its money.

My new spindle sander is quickly creeping up the list, however. I love that thing.

I’d have to say my two Hegner Scroll saws get the most work out, and then the band saw Jet and Rigid Spindle Sanders. Planer, Joiner and router table receive allot of use as well….most favorite would have to be the Scroll Saw

Tablesaw is too obvious, so I would say my router table for pattern routing. It is very handy to toggle clamp a curved part in a pattern jig, and quickly zip it to perfect shape on the router table.
Of course I used my bandsaw to rough cut the curve… Arrgghh!

Most Used…. Has to be my table saw. I think that I use it nearly every time I am in the shop. My favorite tools would have to be either my router or my chisels. I love both, and couldn’t imagine most of my projects without them.

My first instinct was to say my tablesaw. DYankee had a good comment about the beer fridge. After review, I think my favorite tool is my trusty little 6” combination square. I think that gets more use than anything else.

I started to say the one that you use the most but that isn’t necessarily true. There are tools you look forward to getting to use and then there are those that we use a lot so we can move to the next operation and tool. I probably like my Bosch 12” compound sliding miter saw the most and would list it as one of my favorites if not the favorite. The table saw is a versitile tool and almost mandatory to own in a WW shop. Difficult question to answer. I like tools period. I like all of them.

My most used tool in the shop? My dust collector.

My favorite tool? Toss up between the lathe, and scroll saw…

The lathe is a cheapie HF 12×36 cast iron bed lathe, the scroll saw is an old Dremel I found on Craigslist cheap… Both are a hoot to use, and kind of give you that at least almost instant results thing…

my eyes—i protect those puppies-without them, it’s kind of hard to use the table saw

although i did see a show awhile back of someone who is blind, but uses the power tools. he is very careful in how he uses them.

As much as I love using my table saw, I have this extreme affection towards my try square. Nothing fancy, just a True Blue Empire 8” try square. It’s a love hate thing since I love accuracy and it loves proving me wrong… and occasionally right.

My current favorite tool is my Excalibur scroll saw. After that, my big bandsaw, then my lathe. I have all the other tools too including a jointer, planer , mortising machine, cabinet saw, shaper, sanding machine, routing table/router, lots of different power hand tools, and other handtools, etc. They all compliment one another and perform important functions, but the enjoyment while using them is another matter. I’m glad to have them all.

Definitely my TS as it is the first stationary power tool I bought back in 1974 …. it has been with me almost as long as my wife. I bought it on sale as Sears for $250 which back then was a good price. The cast iron top has a slight dish (.005”) from front to back from just plain wear.

I have thought of buying a new one but I would have to learn all of the nuances that have been ingrained from using this one and this one still serves its purposes.

Favorite tool is my old Pfaff industrial upholstery sewing machine. When I took the machine head in for a tune up at the beginning of the year, the technician offered me $1500 on the spot. After he had a good look at it, he increased the offer to $1750 final. I honestly don’t think it’s worth a penney more than $1800 but he may have had a buyer in mind. Mine is the same model as this one. My table is also original but I had to replace the motor in 1985.

I have a few other left overs from my youth such as my Wiss Scissors and hand tools. I even have an old button maker with several die sizes but none of that counts if you can’t sew the fabric together.

Wait – this is the lumberjocks site. I’ll get it right next time. ;)

It is currently my new table saw. Once I take the miter saw out of the box that will probably be it. Then when I bust my Kreg Master Jig kit out that will be number one and then when it is time to unpack the planer that will be king…I guess its whatever is the newest, but since I am just coming out of a year long hiatus I guess they are all kinda new right now

Never could live with out my Bosch 12v drill driver. I almost cried a few weeks ago when it died. New one was ordered and paid for within 5 minutes on amazon and with amazon prime i have overnight shipping for $4 so I had it in my hands in less than 24 hrs

Most used is the Table saw My favorite is my 4 1/2 smoothers I have 2 of them and love them both there is nothing like the feel of a superiorly tuned hand plane at work. However I am about to finish my Bench and it will become my favorite tool. Without a proper bench I have gotten by for the past 20 years with a store bought bench before thast I used an old table with a vise on it. I am finishing My 21 st century bench it really isw one of the best desined benches in the world It has the best of the nicholson and the split top roubo It is by far the key to better woodworking and well worth the hours I have spent building it. I will always love my planes and I will love plaining but it will be better at a great bench. Ps Mike Has the same bench and it is something to behold . Aj build your bench now it will shape you as a woodworker make it big and heavy and something great
