I thought that he had gone a little off the deep end but is ridiculous! I saw some of what you show above and it is not appropriate for this site even in the OT forums! What is he trying to prove? Whatever it is, it’s wrong! I am starting to wonder which is the real Rick and who is the fake! The real Rick never responded to my PM! -- "I never met a board I didn't like!" |

It’s one thing to post bad and inappropriate stuff here on LJ (some examples above).

I had him blocked, I went and looked at his profile and sure enough there was Rick’s name along with picture, why doesn’t admin do something about this guy? Yup, it’s kind of like the wild west here on lumberjocks. I doubt the admins will act quickly on this. People like whatever-his-name should be removed from the site, but they’re probably be back under a new identity anyways. -- "hold fast to that which is good" |

Need to know his ip address and block that. It probably takes a serious amount of effort to impersonate someone on the web – what does this clown hope to gain just by being a jackass? |

This is quite interesting. I have never known a website to allow duplicate site nicknames. Changing your nickname? sure, but not to someone else’s. The picture restriction would be hard to moderate as some people do not EVER post a picture of themselves on the public places on the internet. I imagine most of our photos are personal in some way (someone made mine for me – a punk Kookaburra if you did not notice), but others use cartoon characters. Actually, the more I think about it, the more it bothers me. It is like a localized case of identity theft and could cause all kinds of grief – actually it does look like it has already. If someone did this to you IRL, you could get a restraining order against them, but that is tough on the internet. -- Kay - Just a girl who loves wood. |

IPA = Internet Provider Address The actual address… not just a name… If the actual address is blocked, the Address is blocked regardless of what Name he chooses to call himself. Now, if he chooses to use multiple IPA’s (friends house, employer, etc.), that means that Those IPA’s would have to be eventually blocked as well to keep him blocked. ”Real” Rick, how do we really KNOW that you are the Real Rick and NOT some imposter? Joe Lyddon, please stop saying IPA in this context! As a professional nerd, you are hurting my brain. IPA – India Pale Ale. It’s a rather hoppy beer. It was brewed for the British Army when they were going to India. It was made extra hoppy so it would survive the trip. It’s a little more bitter than a lot of other beers, but I enjoy it. If you are a fan of hoppy/bitter beers, check out Avery Brewing Companies Maharaja. Delicious (did I mention I am also a beer nerd) What you are referring to is an IP Address. IP does not stand for “Internet Provider*. It stands for Internet Protocol. The most common in the US is IPv4, (RFC 791 introduced by DARPA in 1981). Someday soon, we will transition to IPv6 (RFC2460, circa 1998). A lot of Aisa already has. And yes, you can IP ban someone, but all they need to do is renew their DCHP lease to get a new IP unless they have a business type connection with a static address and not a dynamic. Sorry for the interruption. |

Rick, This is an incredibly frustrating problem with which you should not have to deal. However, instead of making the precipitous request of the admins to remove all the posts by this disreputable individual: just ask that his avatar and (strange that this was even allowed in the first place) nickname be returned to what they last were (or struck to blank). It appears this account of his is banned. Our names are what we make of them, impersonation must never be tolerated. |

rick, like I told you your reputation is all you have online. it is too easy to make things up and bs like someone did you wrong or to steal your id and post a bunch of lies and crap then you don’t know who it really is to blame. Don’t let this jerk push you away. The management had been asked by me to remove dan for his inappropriate posts and game playing they wanted to give him enough rope to hang himself I do hope that he has a static ip and that we are all diligent if one of us is suddenly out of Character and starts acting like the juvenile delinquent Dan. It may not be you it could be him again I say it is time to lock the identity of each user and that way no one can do this type of thing again. I d9ont even know how to change my name If i did I would just be thedude or The Dude and not the dude50 now i am 51 any way i dont know or care about this stuff so i dont play with my id but this kid has destroyed a good part of LJ I dont know what would make a regular go insane like that and destroy his online hangout its like pissing in your own beer.
