I like the “wood” ads. We should have more. -- This is a Troll Free zone. |

When you do a search for something; say pop rivets these searches place “cookies” in your browser. These cookies link the searches to LJ and propagate to the LJ community. Try searching for something really weird product and/or service, out of your normal interests and I will bet you “dollars to donoughts” that these searches will show up on LJ. Recently I searched for Laguna tools and Lithium Ion powered lawn mowers, lo and behold these products showed up on LJ. -- "I never met a board I didn't like!" |

I was searching Graphics Cards, Processors and Motherboards for my computers and I keep getting ads for those kinds of things. There’s an ad for laptops on the right at the moment. How to explain the underwear ads? -- --Tyrone - BC, Canada "Nothing is ever perfect, we just run out of time." |

I use an ad blocker so i don’t see any of those ads. A lot of browsers will track where you go and what you search and show specific ads that might be to your liking. delete all your cookies and you’ll see something else advertised. -- In the end, when your life flashes before your eyes, will you like what you see? |

Tyrone, Some ads are placed there directly by the advertisers and some follow you searches. I use my tablet and my PC for LJ and the ads are different depending on what I searched for on the two computers (I don’t like calling the machines because they have no moving parts). On the other hand perhaps you have one of those newfangled computers, it is reading your subconscious and is searching for underwear! -- "I never met a board I didn't like!" |

I’ve just noticed that quite a lot of my “rag pile” – that I use for oiling, waxing, polishing etc etc are actually old undergarments of various types. -- "Do not speak – unless it improves on silence." --- "Following the rules and protecting the regulations is binding oneself without rope." |

I’ve seen them show up on other woodworking related sites, too. But if I were the business owner I’d be PO’d that someone is wasting my advertising dollars promoting my product to a community that is less likely to buy my product. |

Jeff in Huntersville They only pay by the click, no click, no pay! That’s where companies like Google, Yahoo, and hopefully for Facebook get their money. I say hopefully because that is Facebook’s only source of revenue at this time. -- "I never met a board I didn't like!" |

Have you done any searches for ‘Ladie’s feminine undergarments’ lately? That would explain it! -- Einstein: "The intuitive mind is a sacred gift, and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift." I'm Poopiekat!! |

I welcome this kind of ads. Beats political claptrap on non-shop talk. |

I don’t think cookies have anything to do with the ad. If you do a Google search for Tormek and Google puts a cookie saving your search history on your computer, no other website is supposed to be able to read that cookie because the cookie knows which website saved it to your computer. I used to be a web programmer, though it’s been a few years and maybe technology has changed, but that’s how cookies worked at least 6 or so years ago. Now, I did do a search on LJ for tormek yesterday and this morning when I came back, I have seen Jet and Tormek sharpener ads. Jarod -- Dad: Someone was supposed to pick up his toys! Son: My name isn't "Someone". |

This topic has come up before. It has something to do with this garmet being called a body SHAPER. The google ad thingy is too stupid to know the difference between a wood shaper and a body shaper. -- "Hard work is not defined by the difficulty of the task as much as a person's desire to perform it.", DS251 |

Last night I did a search for 3/4” Black iron Right/Left coupling. I clicked on Pex Supply to look at the item. So I assume that the Pex Supply cookie “woke up” and placed the add on the LJ page I opened. When I got to LJ this morning there was an add for Pex Supply that had the item I was searching for on my tablet but NOT on my PC. The next test will be to search for something weird and then clear out the cookies B4 opening LJ! -- "I never met a board I didn't like!" |
