I think he’s a good guy at heart, but he had a knack for getting into scrapes with folks. I guess he either got kicked out, or just decided to take his ball and go home.

I had interesting exchange of PM with Mike but then he became “all weird”.
I sent him one or two messages asking him to stop but he never replied.

I dont’ know him and he has not offended me directly, but i have seen some of his ‘not so nice posts’ and ‘badgering’.

Maybe he is eternally resting in a horizontal posistion? (sorry, could not resist that one)

I agree with you on the flavour part though some times it was cringe worthy as he beat that dead horse into submission again and again.
I rather liked Mike, a true contrarian and defender of the faith, just wished he could have reined it in a little.

I have a TW 3/4in 3TPI on my 14in Rikon and I love it. To be honest, I use the BS mostly for resawing and have found that moving from 1/2in to 3/4in was noticably an improvement and made it easier to maintain a straight cut line.

Mike responded “in kind” to folks that hate his beliefs. He backed up his assertions, which must have been doubly frustrating to those not used to being bullied back. On more than one occasion, I’ve seen moderate members condemn him for his hot responses to awful posts that were so outrageous they had been erased/censored right away. A member that attacked Mike personally by posting his pictures, address, girl friends phone number and claiming to have sent people to his house to pray for him is still here. It would be wrong if Mike was asked to leave and that guy wasn’t even booted. -Jack

Jack, few of us are white sheep or black sheep. Most of us are gray. Here’s my fond memory of getting to know Mike, in case you didn’t witness it at the time:

I had started a thread about it being my 10,000th post (I think), and how much I had enjoyed the site and all the great info I’d gotten from my fellow jocks. Mike chimed in with a couple of nasty comments, basically saying I posted a lot of BS just so I could say I had a lot of posts. His opinion was that we should only post information or constructive criticism, and any sort of “attaboy” post was just BS.

I didn’t know anything about him, so I clicked on his profile to find out who this guy was who was reading me the riot act. I clicked on the link he had posted to his personal web page, noticed he held a Ph.D., then I responded to his criticisms by saying (tongue in cheek) that I thought Ph.D.’s liked BS.

Well, that sent him over the moon. He accused me of posting personal information about him, went to my personal page, posted all sorts of things about where I work, what I do for a living, and how I could abuse my position. It seemed so bizarre and over the top that I just didn’t even respond after that. I took him for a nut case, and figured no good would come of arguing with him.

Some time later, though, he had a plane restoration project taken down for not being “woodworking”. Other people, including myself, had posted plane restorations and not had them removed, so I sided with him and voiced my support for him. After that, we were okay.

He’s a bright guy who is very passionate about his beliefs, and he’ll defend them fiercely. But, as you noted, he always cites evidence to back him his opinions. The only downside is that his passion, coupled with a quick temper, tends to create a bit of friction sometimes.

I once started a thread about in-laws or friends stealing your stuff, losing stuff during a relationship breakup, and whether other LJs had similar experiences. It was friendly and supportive. Quite a few of us had similar stories, about learning not to trust those close to you sometimes. This Genius barged in, trying to humiliate me for something that happened to me 10 years ago! Totally failed to comprehend the intent of the thread, to commiserate with others about woodworking-related property losses. I was of course no longer distressed about my property loss. I didn’t even know who this stranger was, but there he was, wrecking a perfectly good thread. (Click!) He drew first blood. I had no gripe with him. http://lumberjocks.com/topics/24687

He’s still lurking on HomeRefurbers. I received a PM to tell me so.

Probably on “World of Warcraft” as well.

He signed up on HomeRefurbers 69 Days ago. If he’s “Lurking” there He’s doing it quietly and without signing in. It shows “0” Activity. Which means he hasn’t Posted or Commented on anything.

Interesting that you would get a PM to that affect.

I had NO Beef with him and his Personal Web Site is Very Inyeresting.
