Thanks for the advice!

Sometimes it’s nice to get a reminder once in awhile, of tools we have to work with.

Thank you, Debbie… Nice recap!

Question:
Photo’s & Postings, Projects, Blogs, all data…
Is there a purging schedule where data is deleted?
If so, what is it?

I’ve made the mistake of moving images around on Photobucket. and losing them on LJs

This shouldn’t happen here, I hope.

Joe!
I found out that when you move a file in Photobucket, like from one album to another it gets knocked off of LJs. You have to edit your project, & enter it from its new location, because they’ve changed the address of your image.

I’ve had that experinence with Photo Bucket i.e. Losing Images. Although as Joe said I’m not clear on your Statement Dick & Barb.

Sometimes, on here and other sites, anything I brought from MY Account on Photo Bucket that I THOUGHT were images that belong to ME just disappeared for no apparent reason and were replaced by that PB Sign.

It woukl appear that by some means PB retains some kind of “Grip” on your Images.

SO! I got off there about a year ago. EVERYTHING I had Posted ANYWHERE was removed by them!!

If you read their Privacy Policy you’ll see that there are about 30 to 50 (I forgot now) OTHER SERVICES that WILL use ALL YOUR Information you post on PB by Default, Unless you go to a certain page and have their “Right To Do So” Removed by checking ALL the little boxes. I did that BUT could only get about 60% of them off.

Most of those other “SERVICES” place “Cookies” on your Computer. They are what I refer to as “Info Gatherers and Re-Sellers”

Use the “img” button above the Posting your doing, bring them here from your own Computer. There are also other Photo Hosting sites you can use that will work on here if your Storage is Maxed Out on your Computer.

Dick & Barb:

That makes sense…sounds very logical and proper… when something is “moved”, it usually ends up with a different address.

Thank you for clarifying…

Now, as pics here on LJ’s do not resdie in various folders, etc. and We the People really don’t care where the pic. ends up… there is no need for us to know… BUT, IF pics are ever moved, all uses of associated addresses will also be updated… because they are all in the same system.

IMO, this is the prime reason to get ALL images onto LJ from PB and other sites. Otherwise LJ does not stand on its own. It is depending on other sites not changing. I’ve gone to very interesting LJ threads but the pictures are broken links. This is probably the Achilles Heel of LJ. I sure would like to see this changed.

I think it’s currently Optional whether images are loaded to LJ or anywhere else…

If LJ data will NOT be purged, then, putting everything on LJ would be the best way to go.

On other sites, I have had stuff Purged, as the result of a 6 mo (or so) purge cycle, which really messes things up.

This is the reason for my initial question…

If PURGEs were never anticipated on being made, I would feel better about putting everything here.
... but… (??)

I don’t care for the “off topic” title.....
It makes me wonder what I might be missing , rather than just not clicking on a title that doesn’t interest me. People that are complaining about certain things , don’t have to click on them in the first place.
If the title upsets them , then why read the whole story ? (Think newspaper)
It’s just like the projects page . I only click on the projects that interest me.
I don’t get offended by seeing pictures of things that don’t interest me.
Kind of a no-brainer for most of us.

thanks MSDebbie…happy holidays to you and yours : )

Dusty says “If the title upsets them , then why read the whole story ?”...........the titles do not upset me but many do deceive, like: “What do you think?” as a title then go on a political rant….......... So we can agree to dissagree.

Joe, if LJ ever purged images, that would be like shooting themselves in the foot. That’s the whole point of the Projects and many of the Blogs. I don’t think they’ll ever do that.

And Jim, thanks for the voice of reason on that topic (again). :)

A nice feature I use on the SBNation blog comments is the ability to use keyboard keys to navigate to new comments. On SBNation sites, the “z” key goes to the next unread comment, and “Shift-a” marks all comments as read.

Something similar here would be nice, as you have to scroll down to the bottom of the topic/project/blog post/etc. to see the new comments.

Right, but there’s a big advantage to using the keyboard to navigate. And clicking the green number means you have to click Back twice to get back to the forum index.

When you have many favorite project etc… It would be very nice to have the ability to make sub-folders like:
Boxes: to stores boxes projects
Cutting Boards: for all you favorite boards

etc…
