Thanks for the note. I checked the link and it worked for me. It’s the main page for their project so I have to wait until I get the notification of acceptance before I can post a direct link to my project idea.

I don’t usually try to get involved with popularity contests, but I really need the networking and support of everyone to get this project funded. I want to do this for our soldiers and to do it in a way it will really matter and that means $$$$! The Pepsi Refresh Project will enable me to do this. I plan to work with the Red Cross to get my canes to soldiers who are trying to rehab their lives back to some normalcy here back home.

I hope you will consider helping me and the soldiers by voting for my project: Custom artistic ergonomic fancy wood canes for wounded warriors

As a post 9/11 USMC vet, I can’t thank you enough for helping my friends and colleagues. Thankfully, I made it to the end of my enlistment with no life altering wounds.

I usually donate the proceeds of anything thing I sell on CL to the wounded warrior project. I usually give the buyer the option of making the tax deductible donation in thier name, and show me the receipt.

MMH is really on to something here. A 20-30yo soldier/marine doesn’t want to use some geriatric-looking cane, if they are unlucky enough to need one. These hardwood canes are incredibly slick and would be well recieved.

Thank you all for your comments of support. I will attempt to clarify what this project is about.

If I win the selection for this grant, I will be able to design, fabricate and deliver our custom ergonomic canes to the wounded soldiers who need one. I intend to work with the Red Cross Military and possibly other valid services dealing with the soldiers directly, so the canes will go to soldiers who need one, not just to anyone who says that they want one. The funds will cover costs for supplies, labor, shipping, advertising, phone calls, etc., or any other expenses accrued for the fabrication and delivery of one of our ergonomic canes to the client. The soldier will not have any out of pocket expenses. I will have to abide to the rules of the Pepsi Foundation to complete this within one year. My intention is to create as many canes possible until the funds run out. I will be a busy little bee if this comes true.

My husband and I have been creating several styles of canes to enable a mass production, yet there will be a variety of size/styles to choose from to allow the recipient the best option for their needs. Individual customized canes will be available, but this will hinder the quantity output, so a mass production of a limited variety of designs will be used to create as many canes as possible within the annual date. We are flexible in our work so we aim to please each client, as the reality of the individual needs is acknowledged. This is a big project but we are gearing towards making it a successful one.

Here’s one style that may be replicated, as there were specific requests for this customized cane handle: http://lumberjocks.com/projects/43658. We’re still developing and test driving some designs, as we want them to be comfortable/ergonomic and the right size/shape.

On top of this, the handles need to be made quickly to meet the quota for the deadline. I actually hope to produce more pieces than promised, but I didn’t want to make a commitment that I could not keep. As I mentioned above, I have to abide to their legalities including a one year time frame, but once those are met, I don’t see why I couldn’t keep producing more canes if I have the materials and resources in my budget.

I’ve been having to deal with my Mom’s needs, as she had emergency heart surgery 3 weeks ago today and is still in the ICU. As inconvenient this has made my life, I’m thankful that she’s still alive, as she had an aortic dissection which is usually fatal. She’s doing OK, but has a long road to recovery.

Even if we try to duplicate a cane handle, the exact shape can be altered, and probably will be, as no two canes are exactly alike since each one is handmade.

When ever my husband and I create a cane handle, we are always asking each other’s advice and approval. Sometimes we don’t agree, as our hand size and shape are very different, but that makes our work all the more challenging and accurate as we are always trying to make the best product for the user.

Hello Everyone! I’m currently rated at #262, so please keep up the fantastic work by voting for my project on a daily basis, through May 31. Tell everyone you know to please help, as this is crucial to winning this grant to fund my project. Without these funds, I can not make the amount of quality, ergonomic canes for our wounded soldiers.

I have been doing pro-bono work when ever I can afford to, but I need to pay for supplies, workshop facilities, utilities, etc., to stay in business. I hope to win this grant to give back to our soldiers on a BIG scale, so that many more can benefit.

So, PLEASE VOTE for my project:

OK, there is something about this I don’t understand. I don’t do facebook so don’t know what this is all about. You do good work and make some nice canes, BUT, I make canes too, and have made up over 100 cane for the vets, Wood carvers and Wood turning clubs all over the this great nation have been making canes for the vets and we have been doing it for nothing! We do it because its the right thing to do and because a lot of us are vets too.

Hello Richard,
I appreciate your interest and concern. I have a small for-profit business and I make canes to sell. I am interested in giving something to the wounded soldiers for their efforts. I salute you on your complete pro-bono efforts but I want to do this on a large scale and this costs money. I could continue to do my pro-bono efforts on a small scale, as funds allow me to, but winning this grant from a corporate source, would allow me to do this on a grander scale. I don’t see why finding funds that are being offered from a corporation should be shunned. I am not out to make a few measly low quality canes for a large sum of money. My intentions are to create as many canes as possible of high quality that are custom, ergonomic and aesthetically appealing for these wounded vets.

My canes are designed specifically for the individual’s needs, and a mass production of a few select styles that we can alter will be available to assist in both the need and the mass distribution. My canes are also guaranteed for life, so if anything is needed to make it right, it will be done out of my pocket.

If you need further clarification feel free to send me a message or post one here.

I’m afraid I have to run and go see my Mom, as she’s in the ICU.

Yours,
Meilie
