Looks like an MBF. If it is, then it’s a 9” saw, but … most people buy an 8” blade for it (much more common).

Sounds like it needs new bearings.

So … IMHO … yeah: that’s a GOOD price.

If interested, go to my home page > my blogs, and find my series on MY purchase and mechanical restoration of a 1956 MBF. You’ll find steps, parts, part #’s, and $$$s involved. At the end, I have an RAS that I truly enjoy using.

Good luck !

I did some checking and couldn’t find a 8 1/4 so I thought it might be a 9in

Ken: IMHO … only if it’s fully restored, and needs nothing.

Otherwise, I fairly regularly see them in the +/- $100 range.

The MBF is a small-ish, 3/4HP model.

If it was me, I’d snap it up. I love mine. I probably use it more than the table saw.

Back in the day, I had a craftsman RAS and loved it. I now have a cabinet style table saw…but there are things that the RAS can do that a TS is not that good for.

With that said…I would say that the price you quote is very nice. If I were in the market…I would snap it up also. If I had the room for another saw in my shop it would be a RAS….but I need a bigger jointer more….so an 8” or larger jointer is on my tool list.

WOO-HOOOOOOOOooooo !!!

Congrats on the purchase !

In one of my blog entries, I put up a LONG list of really good website links, and a couple titles of incredible books on the RAS.

It’s really a GREAT saw. Many RAS enthusiasts consider the MBF to be the best in its class (home use/hobbyist).

Very cool !!

I’ve got a manual from the series, if not the actual MBF model. If you want a copy, PM me your e-mail, and I’ll send it to you.

If it’s cutting square, then … you’ve already won half the battle.

Motor (replacing) and rollerhead (cleaning, first; replacing, if that doesn’t fix you up) bearings are probably in your future.

That is worth $70 just to look at it….Compare it to the subsequent versions made in Italy which are really light weight.

Nice Saw.
I like the older ones. Wouldn’t touch most of the ones made in the last few decades.

I would give $70 for that in a heartbeat. I like the small size. I will probably never have a RAS just due to space and chores mostly covered by other machines (sliding miter saw, band saw, table saw). New ones sure are high dollar, too. Good find.
