That’s what some do. It might actually be easier to mark a straight line and cut it free hand or using a jig that is a single point lined up with the blade so you can manually compensate but still have a guide.

You should also make sure that your blade is sharp and clean and mounted so that the gullets of the blade are aligned with the crown of the wheel not so that the blade is centered on the wheel. Once I learned to center the gullets, my blade alignment issues mostly went away. If you haven’t watched the Snodgrass Bandsaw clinic on YouTube, I highly recommend it.
