You want to form the bevel but not bring it to a point yet.
Heat treat it.
Then temper it.
Then you can sharpen it.

That is a great job. Those irons are hard to find.

If you don’t want to make your own forge, or buy one, you can send irons out to be heat treated. I agree, really nicely done on that iron.

I am not sure where you are at, but my brother has a heat treat oven. Shipping within the US is probably cheap and I bet he wouldn’t charge much.

He did a heat treat and temper on the chisel in my project list, and has done several knives.
