French cleat is a great idea. Unfortunately she wants the shelf to be 3/4” thick. I m worried that is too thin and the shelf will sag. The distance between the two walls is 56”. I m thinking I should talk her into an 1 1/2” shelf. Could probably do a French cleat with that. I ll see what she thinks. Thanks guys.

I agree with the cleat system. And tell your mom she has to make a decision. Does she want you to do it right, or does she want an ugly shelf that will sag. I think that is the bottom line.

Another thing about a shelf. What is going to be stored on the shelf and how would you keep it from falling off the back side…or front side for that matter?Think it over thoroughly.
