Hey everyone so I was eyeing the Rikon 14" Professional Bandsaw that Woodcraft is selling for $800 for Black Friday. I decided I would look on CL to see if anything cheaper could be bought of the same quality but slightly used. Well I ran across this beauty. It is missing the motor (original was fried) but aside from that and the base which is often missing on a saw this size it, its in pretty pristine condition. The saw originally came with a 1/2-3/4hp motor. I would like to put a 1.5hp baldor motor in it assuming this doesn't stress other areas of the saw too much. It's listed for $300, I spoke to the owner (also a member at OWWM) who has restored many machines he just got a bigger saw before he got around to finishing it. It has new bearings , original wheels, new crowned belt and a fresh coat of paint. I may sink another $300 in but I would have a beautiful old bandsaw. The only advantage I see to owning a new one is the blade detensioner (man I wish that was available on these) and the detensioner scale (although I've read these aren't very accurate on the most 14" band saws). I'm not worried about being able to get the saw to working order, my main concern is if the couple of new modern touches missing will make me regret my decision.
