Posted on Dumb question of the day--keeping brass wedge in marking/cutting gauge

Charles, I have that exact gauge. Funny thing, I had the opposite problem at first, I couldn’t get the wedge out when I wanted to sharpen it. I finally did, and when I reinstalled it, I held the end of it on the edge of my bench so the knife point wasn’t on the bench, put a small piece of scrap pine on top of the wedge, gave it a couple light taps with a small hammer, and it hasn’t come out since.
