So I have completed my most complex project - A slat bench. I'm super green at this wood working skills and have next to no tools aside from a few saws and some wood sanding blocks. so yeah…
I have managed to get this thing looking really nice. It currently has about 4 coats of Danish Oil on it right now and I was wondering what next? I was thinking of maybe putting a coat or two of Johnson's on it, but I am not sure if that is suitable for a bench.
Will paste wax work for benches, or something else work better?
P.S.
This might go outside (I'm in a mild climate though)
Nice job, and notwithstanding previous advice, you already put enough stuff on it. Don't garf it up with varnish, which will just run and sag in the slots without adding any real weather resistance. Let it weather, and if it starts to show, re-oil it.
Ok it did happen. Very nice job on the build . and as clint said you might want to skip the varnish unless you put on multiple light coats to prevent drips and sags. As for the mess , it looks normal to me .
