Don’t do many of these sort of things. Most Frame & panel for my sides, however.

Lay the side on the bench

Have the end you want to square up on the side of the bench closest to where you will be standing. Let the rest stick out the back. Clamp the panel to the bench, leaving enough room for a handplane to slide along on.

Now that you have the shooting board set up, one last step. Clamp a bit of scrap to the end you are running the plane towards. This will prevent a blowout on that end.

Slde the plane back and forth, until all points are to the line that marks the “square” of the panel. One could even use a large square, and a marking knife to mark the line for square.

PS: helps to rub so wax/parafin on the plane’s side, or the top of the bench where the plane will be going. Slides abit better that way….
