Just in my fairly limited turning experience, applying the cutter to the spinning workpiece is a matter of feel anyway. As long as the cutter is installed roughly eyeball-square to the bar, I don’t think precision is really important because the hand controlling the handle is automatically going to make the necessary adjustment. Maybe someone else will weigh in here on that issue.
