Those switch backs are usually used so the heavier water that might be suspended in the air or attached to the inside of the pipe will continue to be pulled down with gravity while the lighter air goes back up to the hose connection point. I have about $225 in my system; $160 for my Delta AP400 bought when it was much cheaper & on sale, $45 for a much larger to filter bag (48” tall) and a package of plastic lower collection bags. I’m planning on making an overhead system out of thin wall PVC when I determine exactly where everything needs to go once and for all. That won’t happen until I clean out all of the random lumber I’ve been hoarding out. When it does, I’m planning on a 2 or 3hp cyclone to provide suction for everything, probably something not too complex, perhaps even homemade depending on my funds and available time when the opportunity to upgrade materializes.
