You could finish with 100% tung oil (not tung oil “finish”, which actually contains very little tung oil but rather is an oil and varnish mixture). The table top could be re-coated several times a year, and it only takes a few minutes to let the oil soak in, then wipe off the excess. White oak would be a good choice.
