I have a powerful 3ph planer. I don’t need a stop or tape, the feed rollers are strong enough to send both pieces thru as a unit. Most timbers I can take down to 3mm. with vapor cuts the thinner I go. Too heavy and it comes out the other side as chips. I make veneers to laminate body rests for elec double basses.
