The grain raised? That’s odd, since I’ve never experienced the grain being raised by mineral oil. What I’ve done is to wipe on the mineral oil, let it sit for a few minutes, and then wipe off the excess.

Howard’s Butcher Block Conditioner has a combo of beeswax and mineral oil. You might want to try that instead of just straight mineral oil.

What BigMig said is correct and raising the grain with water and then knocking it back down.
