Yea it is MsDebbieP, just found out that this wood is Velvet Mesquite, which is new to me. I've been working Honey Mesquite. The difference, HM has a reddish/auburn/brown color and the VM has a brown color and is basicly twice as hard. The universe has givin me a new spieces.

Great Find, really, really good.

I live south of San Antonio in the middle of the brush country and those big trees are getting harder and harder to find. Ranchers used to pay people to doze them down and burn them. Now people are paying to take them.

Mesquite is such a beautiful wood for furniture and flooring. There is a guy in Hondo, Tx

making a good living making furniture for folks who just love the stuff. The prices he gets are really steep.

Turned out pretty nice Wayne, now write me a check. j/k LoL

I dont have any boards milled. Just a buch of logs from 10 to 300lbs. This wood dulls the band really quik. Unless I need some boards for a project, I kinda dont like to mill it anymore. I like turning it though.

Besides milling Ebony produces lots of dust either on the tablesaw or the band and the dust is toxic. OOOp! did I forget to mention that?????

But I'm not sure, just something a local woodworker/harvester told me.

Let me know next time you mill a board with some interesting heartwood/sap wood combo. I'll pick one up and dry it out. Perhaps 4/4 and 2-3 BF. Good pen blank material. This wood reminds me a lot of desert ironwood. Not quite the contrast, but close.

This is the one I muffed. The center bearing is reversed. I've put the rest aside and sealed them in wax. It is about 14% humidity here these days.
