Hi Everyone,

I have been slowly setting up my new PM2000 (30" fence), and I am setting up the wood extension part of the table top. I clamped the table top to the rails and started leveling the wood top with the cast iron top. As I squatted down and looked along the seem of the joint, I noticed that the wood top is warped with the middle having a rise.

Do I make the ends level, drill the holes and secure it to the rails, then set something heavy in the middle to flatten out the rise? Do I level in the middle, and have the ends below the cast iron top? Or do I give Powermatic a call and have them send me a new wood table extension top?

Thanks for your help!

Dan

Another warped iron from powermatic! What a surprise! Where did you purchase the ts? If you bought from store tell THEM to get you new one. If you bouhgt online you will have t deal wth PM yourself. I dont envy you. PM is notorious for puttin you on hold when you call for service. Maybe this has changed, but once I just gave up after a hour and another time they answered after forty minutes or so. IMO PMs are the most overrated woodworking machines made. Ive had very poor experiences wth them and their service. Howevr, if your firm they will send you new extension when you get hold of them. Sorry to say though the replacement may also come warped they are famous for this. Anyway, you should certainly demand a replacement. Its not your job to drill clamp and fuss. Its their job to provide properly cast and machined iron. Unfortunately PM is not very good at this.

I called up Powermatic with the phone number that is supplied in the owners manual for warranty service. Talked to a nice lady that proceeded to tell me that I would have to call Tech Support and gave me the number. Called up tech Support, waited on hold for 15 minutes (I thought 15 minutes was a long time, but over an hour mcase….jeez!!) and told the tech guy that my wood extension table top was warped. He had the gall to ask me if I had put a straight edge across it. I told him that I had, and that I can get the ends flush, but there is a rise in the middle. He then told me that I would have to take a picture of it, and send it to him. He took my email address, said that he will send me some info that needs to be filed out, attach a picture to it, and send it back to him, and he'll get it taken care of.

I wasn't to impressed with the tech guy after I told him of my problem. He reacted to me like it was impossible to have a warped wood extension table. We'll just have to see if PM gives me any trouble once I submit the picture and other info.

Dan,
Maybe try this. Loosen your bolts and then start at the front - secure that where you like it and then move to the middle - secure that. Now you back edge should be lower. Use a board and a clamp to bring the back edge where it needs to be and tighten. I'm not sure if the rest off the extension will be flat but it might be worth a try.

Dan,
Sorry, I was thinking of the extrnsion wing. 15 minutes aint bad for PM glad you got through. I used to own a PM 66 the extension table was particle board wth a formica like surface. If yours is the same material its not hard to imagination it warping. Anyway it should be flat. Its outrageous they are treating like scam artist and making jump through hoops taking photos etc. Hope you get a replacement without too much further hassle.
