I just completed my first 2 drawers for a kitchen base cabinet. These are replacing shelves. The first one was glued up five hours ago. It is finger or box jointed. Can I put a first coat of shellac on it tonight?
I'd like to be able to sand it and get a second coat first thing in the morning.
The second drawer has just been glued up at 9:30 pm. Any chance of shellac on it tonight?
They are made from 1/2 birch ply if it matters.
Thanks, I'll try to detail my ordeal of making a simple box AFTER I get them to slide in and out !
Sand. Yeah. Sometimes little bits of glue bulge
out of joints as the glue cures. It's minor and often
doesn't happen… depends on a lot of factors
I suppose so it's hard to predict.
I shellac stuff real quick after assembly sometimes
and never noticed any real problems.
O.K.
thanks. Doing before could have been better. It would have been very simple to tape off the fingers.
I am going to go ahead and do the first one and I'll do all of the second except at the corners with the box joints just to be safe.
I've worked projects after 2 hours in the clamps with no problems.
