Super info; Thanks! And, yes I could understand every word he said. I;ll probably try to fabricate one this morning. I have trouble fixing my hold downs tight enough even with a a leather raw hide pad on the foot. It's a WC CI unit, not a high arch blacksmith's model. Maybe some day? Any help LJs?
kdc & smitty. I know there are a lot of handtool guys working in the traditional way so thought it would be of some use. Old school methods are sometimes hard to beat.
I must confess that this video was not my finding, it was posted by one of the guys on a WW forum here in the UK. I guess woodworking is woodworking no matter where you work wood.
Simple principle and great results in work holding! I need to drill a few more dog holes in my workbench, and I will definitely be making some of these in different thicknesses. I already have three holdfasts, so I plan to save a few scraps from the fire pit to make some battens-a no-cost, practical solution for the shop. Thanks for posting.
I traditionally use those dogs with my end and/or face vise. I also use Veritas surface clamps instead of holdfasts. That said, I still long for a pair of Gramercy Holdfasts. Maybe one of these days…
Great idea but my holdfasts coat me $60 for the pair and my wagon vices cost me less than $20 for the pair so I can't agree with the cost saving part.
It is a great use of holdfasts and don't get me wrong, I love my holdfasts.
Many Thanks JayT. I'll get my center punch out tomorrow for sure.
