That first photo is enough to make me drool. I think poplar gets a bad rap as a cheap material. It’s soft enough to be easily workable, but still hard and fine-grained enough to give a good planed surface at the same time. Unlike most pine that’s just plain too soft. It can have some nice understated character if you have a good eye for design.
