If it’s light and has a pungant smell it’s spanish cedar, which looks alot like mahogany, if it is heavier, then it’s most likely a mahogany of some sort. There are a few other varieties of wood that will look like this in the cherry family, but not north american cherries. Jatoba, and makore come to mind, if it’s either of those it’s a pretty wood, but hard on tools. Just hard to say when it’s still rough sawn.
