R4512 Blade Washer -- Difficult to remove

Hi Folks,

Over time I have noticed that the blade washer was getting more difficult to get on and off.

Recently, I needed to change the blade; its been several weeks since the last time I switched the blade;
I had a really hard time getting it off, and I could not get it back on.

I did not have another Ridgid Blade washer. I had some Boche blade sabllizers, I thought about using one of them
but decided it was not a good idea. So I clamped the washer to my drill press, and just shaved it a bit with a cone shaped grinder. After that it slipped right on.

I then did a full table saw tune up, did all the alignment checks, all was fine.

I ordered a Ridgid blade washer and and nut, $50 with shipping.

Is this normal ? Should I be worried ?

Thank so much

Don't know if it's normal, but I would be worried if I paid $50 for just a nut and washer!

Cheers,

The initial blade washer was likely dirty with spatterings of sap and water from wood you cut. A little denatured alcohol would likely cleaned it up enough to slip on. I'd cancel that order and use the nut and washer that came with it.

Sounds like Ridgid used a cheap washer, and the action of tightening the nut against the washer has squeezed
the metal enough that it spread out and closed the opening, drilling the hole opening back to the original size
cured your problem. Those washers are supposed to be with precision parallel sides to keep the blade aligned
properly, and be hard enough that they will not deform from normal tightening. Have you been overtightening
the nut?

For what it's worth, my Craftsman 21833, which is the same saw as the Ridgid 4512, has a washer I can't get off at all; the back one. I discovered this when I was going to try some blade stabilizers. That was before I found out everyone else with these saws, at that time, had the same alignment problem I had.

I'm really not at all surprised the washer on these saws is inferior. The whole saw is a POS as far as I'm concernerd. I know exactly where I'd like to shove mine.
