Thanks everyone for the advice so far. I’m going to go by and see the saw this afternoon, and if everything checks out offer $320 and see what comes of it. Craftsman’s comments fall right in line with my thoughts. I would really like to get a machine that works, learn from that, and if / when it come time to upgrade, potentially look at more of a fixer- upper. I haven’t even seen the Rigid saw locally, so finding a store that takes HF coupons, carries the saw, and has a unit without the alignment issues seems unlikely.

I have been following lumber jocks for a while, and remain impressed by the quality of discussion that occurs on these boards. As I begin my journey into woodworking, I take comfort that great advice and such a huge knowledge base is only a couple of clicks away.
