Depends on how you are built as to whether you use a palm rest (that handle). Guys that can put their elbow on their hip or torso use it. Some let the rifle sit on top their extended fingers. I can’t get my elbow within 4 or 5” of my torso. Always had too much meat on me upper body. I just let it lie in the palm of my hand and it is still aimed a bit too high. The idea is to stand there totally relaxed with the rifle on target so you aren’t fighting it.
