Adam, have you looked in antique or pawn shops? Or maybe an estate/garage sale? Can be a great place to pick some up on the cheap. I found a guy whose father had passed away and picked up a turn of the century (1900s) Union 4G, a mortise gauge, combination square, and some auger bits for around $40 (US). That 4G cleaned up quick and very nicely, and works great.
