Burning the cash on other stuff and there have been no $600 cab planer deals around here. Explaining to someone that 15” Powermatic they $1,200 for is the price of a new Grizzly shipped just doesn’t go well

There has been a Jet 6” jointer listed for a few weeks at $700. And that was when you get the new ones shipped for not much more than that when they had their sale going on.

I would do a used cab planer but by the time I figure my time and effort with where I’d have to go (fuel) and I’m back at new prices again. And the ones I find either bottom line are as much as new or new refurb which I’m not interested I doing.

Besides I’m not asking if lunchbox is instead of. I know the cabs are better and quieter. Just don’t have the scratch (spent that on the TS) nor the room.

But if all I’m gonna be is PO’d I won’t bother. But sounds like you can get reasonable results with it.

If it lasts 5 years and then burns up it’ll be worth it to me. Not counting the warranty.

My decision really is either a cab planer or get a lunchbox and a Griz 513 bandsaw. If i went ahead with cab planer then have to hold out on a bandsaw for a year or so. And getting a lunchbox now would allow me an 8” jointer vs the base 6”.

I’m using the planer way more than I thought I would and its kinda a pain to use my neighbors. Don’t want to wear out my welcome so to speak. But that’s a whole other story.

He was receptive to the notion of sharing the planer and I’d have the bandsaw for his use. His use would be infrequent and I’m pretty steady on the planer it seems.
