Hello,

I want to let everyone know about a furniture show going on this weekend in Boston, MA. It is called The Furniture Project (formerly, WoodExpo) and it is part of the New England Home Show at the Seaport World Trade Center. The goal of The Furniture Project is to promote furniture makers and their craft directly to home owners and consumers. This year we have over 30 exhibitors, special guests, and students displaying their work. The variety of work is the best we have seen, ranging from VERY strict reproductions to very contemporary sculptural work.

In addition to the work itself, we have a constant stream of talks and demonstrations by the makers and special guests. The schedule can be found here. Our special guests include Tom McLaughlin, Steve Brown, Phil Lowe, Glen Guarino and others. The presentations vary from design concepts to parquetry and how to burn wood (accurately).

We will also have visits from Tom MacDonald, host of Rough Cut Woodworking with Tommy Mac. He will be in the booth signing books, giving away gear, and showing off some projects from Rough Cut. Come meet him at these times:
Friday, Feb. 22: 5-7pm
Saturday, Feb. 23: 1-3pm
Sunday, Feb. 24: 11-1pm

Finally, Steve Branam of Close Grain is at The Furniture Project offering free classes on sharpening and basic hand tool techniques. Sessions range from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours, so check the schedule and plan ahead.

We really appreciate the opportunity to promote these furniture makers and what they do. Custom furniture is often disconnected from the average home-owner. We hope to bring it back into the mainstream both as a source of furniture and a viable career.
