You are not going to get much lathe for $1500. Jet 1440 comes with Asian reeve drive and bit over priced for what you get. You can check Grizzly for Jet 1642 clone. Grizzly also has a few Asian reeves drive lathes not worth the money.

If have 220V electrical service look at Rikon 1642. Tad more than $1,500 but they do go on slae couple times a year. http://www.woodcraft.com/product/2084034/36867/rikon-16-x-42-heavy-duty-lathe-model-70300.aspx

Essential say lathe as Jet, owner manual about the same. My Jet headstock does not swivel, Rikon does.

If want a Nova, look at buying a reconditioned model, might be able to afford the DVR-XP model.
