It's wierd!
I've been attempting to improve the rating of a website http://www.thetypewriterman.co.uk that I've set up for a friend who is trying to recreate his old career after suffering from being made redundant several times.
During the course of comparing results for other websites I manage (unpaid) for other groups, using Google Webmaster Tools, I was surprised to see how often lumberjocks.com appeared in the list of sites that linked to 'my' sites.
What further surprised me was that my own site http://www.donjohnson24.co.uk (which appears on my LJ Home page) does NOT have ANY links to it at all, but my village hall website for example (that may have been briefly mentioned in a topic 'Show us your website' lumberjocks.com/replies/on/1924853) DOES have a link from LJ. How strange!
It would seem that being mentioned on LJ is good for a site's Google ranking, but that perhaps NOT if it is in one's profile !
If anyone can throw light on the machinations of Google in this area, I would be very interested.
