I've got a small Magnolia tree that has to come down to make room for a carport. The trunk is about 24" in diameter and 20ft tall. I've never heard of anyone making anything with Magnolia wood. I hate to waste any wood so I'm wondering…...
It looks alot like poplar, the basic same color hues, the grain is a little different though not much, and I once helped build some live edge tables out of one, had alot of post hole beetle holes to fill, but they came out looking ok. Point is you can work this wood.
