I think there is already a proximity sensing disk break method out there….check out http://www.whirlwindtool.com/ They stop the blade in 1/8’s of a second. That is great for the situations they’re showing, but you would still be in pretty bad shape if kickback tossed you into the blade or the like. Granted, much better shape than you would be in without the device installed. I have to agree with Michael…I think SawStop just got this idea right. They’ve been around for 10 yrs or so and there really isnt much for alternatives out there. I find it hard to believe that the big boys of the tool world (Delta, Powermatic and the like) didn’t work out a licensing agreement with them 10 yrs ago. |
