Turn only 1/2” and if the shavings feel cool when they contact your arm, hand or when you touch the turned section then the blank may be a bit to moist. Remove the wax on the end grain sides and leave it in the workplace for a week or two the moisture will escape and turn. A lot depends on what you intend making with the spindle blanks. Regards Tamboti PS a lot of exotics are sold per weight and if a little moist will fetch a better price, so not all are ready to turn.
