Yeah, think about your local community and decide what kinds of things are representative of it. They might be plants or animals, or tools, or more abstract symbols.

Then, my advice would be to see how you can make something that incorporates those things, while also being functional. For example, if you were in a community that does a lot of fishing, then a box that could be used to store lures, which has an inlay of fish on it, would probably be a good project.
