Here is a bench screw that Wood craft has. It is 17” but I am sure if you search Rockler, Lee Valley and some of the other onlline suppliers you can find a 9” fairly easily.

I think you will find that veneer press screw has too fine threads (tpi) for a really functional vise. You might look for tail vise screw that might bring up more possibilities in your search
