The correct term is Threads Per Inch (TPI). Yes you are correct as the TPI increases the number of turns to close or open the vice will increase. Without measuring I guess most vice screws are closer to 4 TPI.

A side note Taylor Products, the INCRA folks, have made great use of the fact that 32 tpi means that a quarter turn moves a nut a little less than 0.001”.

Why not expand your design / modification skills and buy something close from Rockler, Woodcraft, etc.?
