What kind of shellac, dewaxed or wax? What color shellac? If you made your own what did you use for solvent and what was he source? Did you have any additives or retarders in the shellac? What was the solvent (methanol or ethanol) and the source? I suspect that your shellac may be the cause of your problem. You could try a different sealer and see what happens.
